John Danks dominated striking out 14 Craig batters and Brandon Phillips
smashed 2 homeruns and scored 3 times as the John Fab 9 defeated the Craig
Boys of Summer 9 to 7 at Coors Field.
Phillips had a big day against Craig. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 1st
inning, laced a one-base hit in the 5th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of
the park (his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning. John banged out 9 hits
on the night.
The victory went to Danks(1-0) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 7 runs.
Danks got help from Ramon Ramirez who was credited with his 1st save. Greg
Smith(0-1) was charged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 4
innings.
Danks didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had
14 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent
total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good,
isn't it?'

47,839 fans were treated to a fine game at Wrigley Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Sam Mighty Acorns won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Sam won the game in the
10th inning. Troy Glaus delivered a single. Michael Young next to the plate
and he delivered a base-hit. Curtis Granderson then reached on an error
making Sam the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. The game
was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Mariano Rivera(1-1) who went 3 innings allowing 1 run.
Hiroki Kuroda(0-1) absorbed the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 9
innings.

The Trevor Fencebusters easily topped the Jessica 2 much baseball; the final
score was 11 to 5.
Brian Roberts was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He ripped a solo home run
(his 1st of the season) in the 7th inning, laced a single resulting in a run
in the 8th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 9th inning.
Trevor out-hit Jessica for the game, 12 hits to 7.
Scott Baker(1-0) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Frank
Francisco recorded the save, his 1st. Shaun Marcum(0-1) was the losing
pitcher.

Ryan Ludwick had 2 base hits at Polo Grounds as the Baseball Stars beat the
Loni Green Monstahs by the count of 3 to 2.
Baseball did all of it's offensive work in the 4th inning when they tallied 3
runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Lance Berkman who brought the
crowd to their feet when he banged out a single scoring two baserunners.
Kerry Wood pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 1st save.
Mike Pelfrey(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
The losing pitcher was Mark Buehrle(0-1). He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings
giving up 7 hits and 7 walks.

The Ben Free K Mitchell put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning and
defeated the Stapley Luck by a score of 8 to 5 at Ebbetts Field.
Tim Hudson(1-0) pitched well enough to earn the win. He surrendered 11 hits
and 4 walks in 8 innings and surrendered 2 homeruns. Ben finished with 12
hits in the victory.
Carlos Marmol gained credit for his 2nd save. Ted Lilly(0-1) took the loss.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
